Justice Wargrave, Vera Claythorne, Captian Lombard, Mr. Blore, Miss Emily Brent, and General Macarthur all came to Indian Island by train.
Anthony Marston and Dr. Armstrong both came to Indian Island by car.
Hi Sydney-
Just to clarify; you're right. Anthony Marston and Dr. Armstrong did come separately to catch the boat to the island. They didn't take the train or drive to the island, though; they wouldn't be able to do that. : < )

Chapter Two:
The members of the party arrived in Oakbridge and took two taxis to the place where they would board for Indian Island.

While they were sitting there, a voice came over the speaker and accused each one of them of murder.
Mrs. Rodgers fainted out of shock and the rest of them tried to figure out what was going on.

Chapter Four:
They continued to discuss what they were accused of.
Each of them stated a case except for Miss Emily Brent.
Anthony Martson took a big gulp of his drink and then collapsed onto the floor, dead.

Chapter Five:
Dr. Armstrong figured that Anthony Marston died of poison.
The party assumed that Anthony had commited suicide and decided to go to sleep.
As the party went to bed, they each thought about what they were accused of.
Rodgers discovered that there were only nine Indian china figures on the table.

Chapter Six:
Rodgers went to Dr. Armstrong in the morning and exclaimed to him that his wife wasn't waking up.
The party ate breakfast and then Dr. Armstrong told them of the death of Mrs. Rodgers.
They assumed that Rodgers had put her to death in fear of his secret being revealed to the Party.

Chapter Seven:
Fred Narrocott, the boat driver, never came back to the island.
Emily Brent told the story about Beatrice Taylor, the one she killed, to Vera Claythorne.
Dr. Armstrong, Phillip Lombard, and Mr. Blore came together to figure out who is murdering these people.

Chapter Eight:
Dr. Armstrong, Phillip Lombard, and Mr. Blore decided to search the island for the murderer or an hideouts he may be using.
General Macarthur kind of goes crazy, while sitting on a rock staring at the sea.
They searched the house also and discovered that there was no one on the island but there eight selves.

Chapter Nine:
The lunch bell rang and everyone came in for lunch, except for one.
Dr. Armstrong went to fetch General Macarthur and discovered that he was dead.
There were only seven Indian pieces left on the table.
They reasoned that Mr. Owen was actually one of the seven left on the Island.

Chapter Ten:
Phillip Lombard thought the murderer was Justice Wargrave.
Vera Claythorne thought the murderer was Dr. Armstrong.
Emily Brent wrote down Beatrice Taylor as the murderer in her journal and now believes that she is going crazy.
Before Rodgers went to sleep he locked the dining room door and put the key away.

Chapter Eleven:

They go to look for Phillip Lombards revolver, but it is not there, some one must have taken it.

Chapter Thirteen:
They all sat watching each other, until Vera Claythorne couldn't take it anymore and went up to bed.
When she got up to her room, she felt something on her neck and screamed.
The others rushed up to her and discovered that there was seaweed stuck to a big, black hook on her cieling.
They realized that Justice Wargrave was not with them and went to look for him.
They discovered him shot in the head.

Epolouge:
Two men sit and talk about the murder of ten people on Indian Island.
They try to think of the possibility of what happened, but they always reach a dead end and finally conclude that it is a mystery.
Justice Wargrave killed everybody and tricked the others into thinking he was dead, with the help of Dr. Armstrong.
Justice Wargrave sent a message in a bottle explaining everything before he went into the house and shot himself.

Excellent job of summarizes the key points of each chapter. I highlighted some of the minor errors in punctuation, spelling, etc.

Assignment Three
December 3,2009

DIRECTIONS FOR ASSIGNMENT THREE.
  • Put a new line between assignment #2 and #3,
  • Copy the assignment to your page.
  • Add the date at the top of your page.
  • Add your answers to the TOP of your page under the date.
  • Choose five characters from the story,
  • Write two sentences telling what you know about him or her.
  • BOLD the character's name and write your sentences about that character right underneath his or her name.

Emily Brent:
Emily Brent received a letter from U. N. Owen, and took a train to get to Indian Island. Emily Brent is a lady who has follows her conscience and the bible very strictly. According to the recording, she was responsible for the death of Beatrice Taylor in 1931. Emily Brent denies that she did it.
Always capitalize Bible.
General Macarthur:
General Macarthur received a letter inviting him to Indian Island. In that letter it said that some of his friends were coming and they were going to talk about old times. He was accused by the recording of killing his wife's lover in 1917.

Vera Claythorne:
Vera Claythorne received a letter from Mrs. Owen saying that she required her secratary skills and so she came to Indian Island by train. She was acused of killing Cyril Hamilton in 1935.

Thomas Rodgers:
Thomas Rodgers received a letter from the Owens for a butler job and came to Indian Island one week before the others. He was accused by the recording of murdering Jennifer Brady. When Rodgers heard this, he dropped his coffee tray.

William Blore:

William Blore came to Indian Island on a different train than the rest of the guests. Mr. Blore also contained a notepad with the names of all the guests. He used the fake name of Mr. Davis and was hired as to watch the guests. He was acussed of killing James Landor in 1928.
Again, a few minor errors in spelling, etc. Otherwise, great job!

Assignment Two
December 2, 2009

DIRECTIONS FOR ASSIGNMENT TWO
  • Put a line between Assignment #1 and Assignment #2.
  • Read chapter two.
  • On your student page ABOVE assignment #1, choose one of the following: suspense or foreshadowing.
  • Find four examples of suspense OR foreshadowing in chapter two.
  • Write the exact wording from the book - that means type the sentences exactly as they are written.
  • In a well-written paragraph, explain why these sentences clearly show either suspense or foreshadowing.

In chapter two, there was foreshadowing and suspense. I chose foreshadowing for the question. Four examples of foreshadowing are:

"Afterwards, more than one of those present remembered that moment." -Chapter Two Page 24.
"And after-----?" Chapter Two Page 36.
"Not straight. He'd swear the man wasn't straight." Chapter Two Page 37.
"Queer business when you come to think of it---the whole thing was queer---very queer." Chapter 2 Page 26

"Afterwards, more than one of those present remembered that moment." This shows foreshadowing because it hints that more than one person in the future will remember Anthony Marston getting out of the car. It may be hinting at that some of the ladies with them think that he is good looking and try to get him to go out with them. It could also mean that they remember him for his fancy car and assume that he is rich. Some of the people their might be jealous of him. If they are jealous or envious they may try and kill him for his car or money. This sentence has many foreshadowing qaulities to it.
"And after-----?" This shows foreshadowing because Anothony doesn't know what is going to happen after dinner. It kind of makes it seem like he may not make it to after dinner. This sentence make you feel like you might not hear of him again after dinner.
"Not straight. He'd swear the man wasn't straight." This shows foreshadowing because General Macarthur suspects that something isn't right and trys to go back to the mainland, but can't because the ship is already gone. He says that Lombard is not right in his mind and that could be a hint that Lombard might be a murderer.
"Queer business when you come to think of it---the whole thing was queer---very queer." This shows foreshadowing because it also points out that something is not right. It was the boat driver who said this and he was saying it about the fact the the really rich Owens invited guests that were not so rich. All of the other guests he had brought to the island have been richer. This could forshadow that something is going to happen that will be weird.

Assignment One
November 30, 2009

How does a mystery novel differ from a narrative?

A narrative is being told by someone, and you can read all the thoughts of the character. The thoughts and feelings of the character are described, and you really understand what is going on in the story. A mystery novel is different than that in many ways. In a mystery novel, you get clues and red herrings, and you have to figure out what the characters thoughts and feelings are. It does not come out straight forward and tell you, and so it involves the reader more.

How does the title give a clue to the story?

And Then There Were None might be a clue to the story because something might be all gone at the end of the story. The characters in the story may have to figure out where the item or people are being taken. They may have to figure out what happened to them. It hints that someone/something may go missing in the story until there is none left. We will just have to read and find out!

Prediction for the book.
I predict this book will have something go missing from it. I think that there will be a murderer involved in it. I am very excited to see what will happen in this book! I love mysteries!

Excellent answers, Syd! I am glad that you are excited about reading this book. Most students love the suspense and can't wait to see what happens next. Check spellings on a few words and placement of commas; some commas are missing in the first paragraph.
